North Pacific Coast (Guanacaste)

Buena Vista Hot springs & Canopy Tour

 

Our scenic route to the Rain Forest at Buena Vista, near the Rincon de la Vieja National Park, travels across the Guanacaste Mountain Range spotted with small villages and cattle ranches. Participants can test the therapeutic properties of the famous mineral clays and the warm waters of the natural Hot Springs while marveling at the lush tropical scenery typical of this region of Costa Rica. Adventurous participants can ascend into the forest canopy and see jungle life from a unique perspective. This canopy platform system effortlessly lifts you into emergent old growth trees to experience a world rarely seen by humans. The tour is guided by specialized bilingual Canopy-guides who will give you the instructions at the beginning and during the 1 ½ hour trip to seven tree platforms in the Rain Forest. At the Hacienda you will also enjoy the mineral hot springs at the spa, this Spa is unique in the area, located in the mountain & surrounded by the forest. It has five hot spring swimming pools, one rustic sauna constructed with stone, a mud bath area and a rustic bar. Also the Spa has dressing rooms, lockers to leave your belongings and bathrooms. You can get there by a rustic trailer, horseback riding or walking. Palo Verde National Park
 

This vast park protects the lower Tempisque River Basin, where a series of seasonal marshes provide ideal conditions for an array of waterfowl. A 2-hour boat ride on the Tempisque Costa Rica’s largest river is a most rewarding experience for anyone interested in nature. The park's main lagoon attracts the largest concentrations of waterfowl and wadding birds in all of Central America, making it a bird watcher’s heaven. The surrounding tropical dry forest is home to everything from monkeys to scarlet macaws.

Santa Rosa National Park & Traditional Hacienda
 

This Tour will take us back in history to La Casona where Costa Rica’s most significant battle took place. In site there is a colonial style ranch that hosts a Historical and nature museum. The Park itself also protects the last remaining extension of the unique and endangered tropical dry forest as well as grassland and savannah woodland. What to bring: Sun block, long pants, insect repellent, shoes, camera and hat.

Corobici River Floating

 

The Corobici River flows from Lake Arenal, at the base of the active Arenal Volcano, westward into the Pacific lowlands and ocean. A float down the Corobici is a unique opportunity for nature lover’s -especially bird watchers – it is home to many different species of birds, iguanas and noisy howler monkeys that can be seen in the trees along the banks of the river. This tour is a great experience for the entire family.

Sunset & Snorkeling

 

Spend the afternoon enjoying soft ocean breezes, impeccable blue skies, rustling palm fronds, warm sand and the rhythmic crashing of the surf. Participants will board their comfortable vessel to cruise around Brasilito and Potrero Bays, Conchal Beach and the Catalina Islands before anchoring near a beautiful beach where you can collect shells, sunbathe in the gentle afternoon sun or swim in crystal clear waters while refreshments and tropical fruit are served. As we cruise back the sunset explodes before us.

Liberia City Tour & Souvenir Shopping

 


On the way to Liberia, the capital of Guanacaste, the route passes through small villages, cattle and farmlands. Liberia is a town with an interesting blend of modern and colonial architecture. You will see the adobe and tile roof houses built over two hundred years ago. On the way back to the hotel, you will visit the local souvenir shop at Guardia where Costa Rican arts and handicrafts of pottery and wood are featured.

Horseback Riding Tour


Explore the beauty of the Guanacaste countryside like an authentic "Sabanero," as Costa Rican cowboys are called. The trails head through patches of tropical dry forest - home to iguanas, monkeys and an array of bird species. All horses are well trained, and saddles and equipment are professionally maintained. Tamarindo Mangroves & Estuary
 


Tamarindo Wildlife Refuge protects a large estuary, mangrove forest and tropical dry forest in an area covering almost 400 hectares. The boat trip into the estuary offers an opportunity to observe rare and abundant wildlife – including monkeys and dozens of bird species - while learning about the unique ecosystem of the mangrove forest. Turtle Nesting Nature Night Tour

Every night from December to February, one of the most amazing natural history tours in Costa Rica is available on the Guanacaste coast. This unforgettable adventure allows you to witness the nesting ritual of one of the largest reptiles on Earth: the leatherback sea turtle (Demochelys coriacea). These massive turtles drag themselves up onto the beach to lay their eggs at the same nesting site they have used for countless generations. Canopy Tour
 

This canopy tour located in a tropical dry forest in the Guanacaste countryside is a full time of adrenaline. The complete tour lasts approximately 3 hours and consists of suspended platforms connected with steel cables, on the canopy of the trees. To move from tree to tree we use pulleys and climbing gear of the best quality. This system of platforms allows visitors to appreciate nature from the top of ancient tropical trees. No rappelling or climbing is involved on this tour and a guide will receive you at each platform, making of this the best canopy adventure. Guaitil Artisans & Santa Cruz Folkloric City
 

Driving through small villages and cattle ranches, we’ll arrive to the town of Santa Cruz and its landmarks, such as the church and the town's plaza, This town has been declared the folkloric City of Costa Rica. Here we will visit a cooperative of women who have specialized in traditional meals all prepared with corn, following the old recipes past on generation after generation and cooked on woodstoves. We will also visit the village of Guaitil, known for its lovely handcrafted pottery made as replicas of ancient ceremonial Pre-Columbian objects. Artisans will show you the ancient manufacturing and coloring processes used in this pottery. Crafted with the same techniques used hundreds of years ago by the ancient "Chorotegas"; techniques, which are still in use today! Souvenir shopping will follow at the end of the tour.
